Loose Materials - Safety Guide for Handling of
In a stack or bin of loose materials such as phosphate, fine pumice, clay, crushed rock or grain, a fall or slide can occur suddenly and without warning. If someone is buried, it is usually impossible to extricate that person alive. This guide aims to prevent accidents in the handling of bulk loose materials by setting out accepted safety procedures for working with heaps and bins of finely divided loose materials. The recommendations will assist employers and others to comply with the requirements of the relevant Acts and regulations - for example the Factories Act 1946, the Construction Act 1959, the Mining Act 1971 and the Quarries Act 1944.
