Flammable Liquids Tank Wagons - Code of Practice for
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has approved a code called the Approved Code of Practice for Flammable Liquids Tank Wagons (HSNOCOP 6-1).
The purpose of this code is to provide an acceptable solution for the design and construction of tank wagons for the conveyance of flammable liquids by road. The requirements are set out in the Hazardous Substances (Tank Wagons and Transportable Containers) Regulations 2004. The code of practice applies to all substances with hazard classifications 3.1A, 3.1B, 3.1C and 3.1D as determined by the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996.
The aim of the code of practice is to ensure that bulk flammable liquids are securely contained and safely transported, thereby reducing the risks and helping to prevent accidental damage or injury to people, property and the environment.
The Code is primarily intended to assist the fabricators of tank wagons that carry flammable liquids to meet the requirements of the Hazardous Substances (Tank Wagons and Transportable Containers) Regulations 2004.
Note: for compliance information for flammable tank wagons designed and built prior to 2004, go to Flammable Liquids Tankwagon Code 1988.
